UCO is the abbreviation for Used Cooking Oil, an acronym that should increasingly be part of our environmental dictionary.
No. The UCO collection service provided by EcoMovimento is completely free.
We are currently present in 11 districts of Portugal: Viana do Castelo, Braga, Vila Real, Bragança, Porto, Aveiro, Viseu, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Coimbra and Leiria.
Leftover food in the UCO makes the treatment process difficult in our facilities, so it must be properly disposed of in organic waste or, if possible, in a composter. When depositing the UCO in the appropriate barrel, make sure it is as clean and free of residue as possible.
Yes. Although it is not common to use olive oil for frying, it can also be recycled. To do this, you must follow the same instructions for recycling UCO.
The successive heating and frying of cooking oil causes irreversible chemical changes that are harmful to health. Experts point to a maximum validity of 2 months after first use. In the case of frying potatoes, for example, a maximum number of 6 uses are recommended. When the food is fried meat or fish, this number should be reduced by half!
After use, let the UCO cool and transfer it to a plastic container with a maximum storage capacity of 7 liters. Once the container is full, close it tightly and deposit it at the GOTA closest to you. EcoMovimento will collect it and begin the recycling process.
The Countie is the entity responsible for ensuring the necessary conditions for recycling used cooking oil, whether directly or through a partnership with a company licensed for this purpose, such as EcoMovimento. If there is no GOTA in your location, it is because EcoMovimento is not a partner in your Countie. Contact them to find out if there is already an UCO container for recycling UCO.
No. Engine oil requires a treatment other than used cooking oil. Contact specialized companies for the treatment of engine oil.
The UCO is collected by the EcoMovimento team and sent to our Treatment Unit, without any addition of chemicals or other components. After a quality control process, the UCO is sent to the Biofuel producing industry.
